The Phoenix is the second of the planned Elements of Myth series and incorporates fire and wind.
Arising from the ashes of what came before; destruction leading to new life and purpose. This theme feels personally relevant to me as I forge a new path in the art world. Working on this piece has also helped me process the devolving stability in the country. Sometimes you just have to burn it all down and see what comes next.
Creating the armature: a scaled diagram was made, and steel rods were bent and cut to size.
Starting to see a shape with the armature body assembly.
The focal point flaming heart sternum was added.
The armature for the head, wings and tail was added. Started the process of adding the flame feathers to fill out and shape the body.
Happy with my progress after adding the face and beginning the wings.

Whoa she flies! First time suspending the phoenix. I was shocked how balanced it was right away. I'm definitely adding some additional attachment points to stop it from spinning though. Nobody likes spinning shivs.
Caught by my shopmate in my "lunch lady bandana." Trust me, having a piece of molten slag hit your scalp is unpleasant! Maybe I should have used a filter or edited this before displaying it for the world?
